Penwith Woodland Burial Place is located at Chyenhal in West Cornwall. It is a peaceful place on a gentle hillside, with tranquil views of Cornish hills and church towers of west Penwith. If this is where you would like to be buried, contact us on 01736 731310 to reserve your space in this exclusive woodland burial place. Do this now, and carry on with the rest of your life in the knowledge that you will end your days where you choose. Making your choice now also relieves those who survive you of the awful burden of decision at a time of great distress. Involving your loved ones in the choice now enables them and you to be comfortable with your choice.
The burial place has been carefully considered and the grave spaces are
accurately recorded on plans, so they are locatable subsequently in the
resulting woodland. The graves are aligned North - South, and are prepared to a
single depth, with adjoining plots available for partners and pets also. No
headstones will be included, but a marker and tree will be placed at the grave
site, and names recorded on a central granite memorial stone. The site is not
consecrated, but individual plots may be blessed.
Woodland Burial. Choosing a woodland burial or green burial at Penwith offers
you a chance to get back to nature and leave the world a better place. You can
choose traditional, alternative or DIY funeral arrangements. A woodland grave
offers an alternative, natural form of burial in which the graves will remain
forever in a newly created wood. The area has been planned to create a
traditional woodland, providing environmental benefits and encouraging wildlife.
All of the major religions and spiritual traditions of the world have
ceremonies and rites surrounding the burial of the dead. Throughout history
family and friends have had an important role to play in the burial of their
loved ones that provided them with a necessary step in the grieving process. In
today's society much of that tradition is lost in the face of the requirements
of the funeral industry, but you do have a choice; what happens to your mortal
remains is up to you and the executors of your will
Ecological coffins are used in order to ensure that the woodland burial place
remains as natural as possible in every respect. If you choose to supply your own
coffin we request that only bio-degradable coffins or
coffins made from timber felled in managed forests are used. The deceased will
be accepted for burial in a shroud, cardboard or home-made coffin (to an
appropriate design and standard), or in any coffin that conforms to the above
requests. This also applies to a casket containing cremated remains for
interment in this woodland area.
Funeral arrangements can take any form; the Burial Place is open to all creeds
and cultures. Funerals may be traditional or alternative, managed or DIY. It is
widely believed that assisting in all aspects of a funeral can be of great help
in coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.
Woodland Burial Rates include the planting of a native tree species, except for

Maintenance. Woodland burial is not for those who require a neat and tidy
grave with its traditional headstone; it will be chosen by those who love birds
and wildlife and wish that, by their death, they can create a woodland for
future generations to enjoy.
The burial place will be managed for the benefit of wildlife. This entails grass
mowing at specific times to promote various wild flowers.
It must be appreciated that the traditional neat and formal look of regular
cemeteries does not apply to this burial place.
